Soda Club USA

Digiorno PizzaLike everyone else, I have my favorites when I peruse the grocery store aisle for some frozen pizza. Some pizzas cut it and some don’t. This goes even further with the snack portion for single person pizzas. It seems that in many cases these often are thrown together with even less regard than the bigger pizzas. However, DiGiorno has always held a bit of a soft spot in my heart.

When they first came out I remember thinking how good they tasted. They were one of the few pizzas that made it tempting to skip the commercial pizza places in the area. You could just pop in a DiGiorno and veg out with a good movie. After a while I stopped buy DiGiorno. It wasn’t because I didn’t like it. Actually, when I needed a bigger pizza, I would still go to them. It was more that I would usually buy something smaller for just myself. So, when I was made aware of the fact that DiGiorno was offering a pizza for a single person, I was in.

The folks over at DiGiorno were nice enough to send me over a sample of their For One Traditional Crust Pepperoni Pizza. Being a pepperoni lover I was more than willing to sample this pizza and will likely be looking for some more when I head out grocery shopping later this week.

Prep
The great thing about pizza is that it takes virtually no skill to make. As long as you can work an oven (or microwave, if absolutely necessary) then you can make frozen pizza. The package comes with directions in case you don’t know what to do, but the general idea is remove from the package, heat, and serve. It seriously could not be easier.

With these pizzas you have a couple of options. You can use the crisping shield that comes with the pizza to cook it in the microwave or you can use the oven. I prefer the oven myself. This allows your pizza to gain a fresher, more natural taste where the pizza’s crust can soften up nicely and your cheese can brown some without just melting like you might find happens when using the microwave.

Taste and Visual Appeal
DiGiorno has always been one of the best options for frozen pizza on the market. This is especially true when you’re considering the basic commercial options. The crust rises nicely to remind you of a traditional pizza. The sauce has a nice flavor and there is usually enough cheese and toppings to compliment the pizza in just the right way. Some might say that the pepperoni pizzas can get a little greasy and I have noticed that in the past. However, this one did not give off too much grease.

Instead, the crust was soft and chewy, there was plenty of sauce and cheese, and the pepperoni was mildly crisp from the oven. It was incredibly flavorful all around. One pizza managed to be pretty filling on its own. If you’re feeling particularly hungry or want to split your pizza with someone you might want to add a salad or something else of your liking to supplement for the personal pizza size and ensure your hunger is met head on.

This pizza reminded me of my past preference for Digiorno. While I had been passing it up in recent years due to my interest in purchasing smaller sizes, I now have a chance to experience it all over again. There are a number of flavors and crust options in the For One pizzas, so I will definitely be checking them out. In addition to traditional and thin crust, DiGiorno also offers some Garlic Bread pizzas in the For One line that I am interested in checking out. DiGiorno offers pretty traditional flavor options. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary for frozen pizza you might want to check out California Pizza Kitchen.

What’s this going to cost me?
These will run you around $3 give or take depending on your store. Of course, I’ve received a coupon or two for these in recent weeks in the paper so there is a chance that you could save a little money on them. These days it seems that with the price increase for groceries, the DiGiorno pizzas are right on target price wise with other single serving pizzas or the less expensive pizzas offer flavorless alternatives that cannot even compare to what you receive here. If it’s a little bit expensive, it ends up being well worth it.

Is it worth it overall?
It’s definitely worth it. DiGiorno rarely disappoints when it comes to the frozen pizza market. If you don’t want to pay the ridiculous prices that some of these pizza chains will charge you with tax and delivery then DiGiorno is one of your best options. This is especially true when you’re looking for a decent serving size pizza that you can enjoy all on your own. Some people might find it a little small, but it’s a good size for the price you pay. This comes recommended.
