Peach LoafThe last time I was in Atlanta, I was stuck in an airport. Unfortunately for me, that meant I was unable to try some of the amazing local eateries and food favorites that are lurking around in the city. It was not during this trip en route to New Orleans that I would learn about Breadwinner. Instead it would be the Food Network that told me everything I needed to know about one of the most amazing bread-making companies in the world.

Normally, a company named Breadwinner would not turn my head because I am not a huge fan of bread. It serves a purpose in my diet, but it’s never been my favorite item on the table. Breadwinner is different though. For starters, this is dessert bread. Regardless when I first watched Jamie and Bobby Deen (Paula’s awesome sons) head into this bakery and sample this bread, I found my mouth watering.

The boys were able to try Party at My Place, Pumpkin, which started the Breadwinner empire and Papa Don’t Peach, which is what I am reviewing now. I was excited to try the peach bread because this would be my first time sampling peach bread, though Georgia being the peach state it does make sense that Breadwinner would have this in their lineup.

I was amazed at the adorable packaging of the product when it arrived. After removing it from the basic, shipping box I was greeted with a cardboard loaf container that was wrapped in cellophane and held together with ribbon and a bow. It was more than bread. it was a present! As cute as the packaging is this in no way prepares you for the delight that you will taste once you unwrap this special treat.

Packaging: ★★★★★

So, going into this so far we know the following things about me.

1. I am not a huge bread lover
2. I have never been in Atlanta long enough to taste the cuisine
3. I’ve never had peach bread before

Now that we know these things, let me just say, if everything in Atlanta was prepared with the same care and taste, I would pack up and become a food critic in Atlanta.

Of course, this shouldn’t even be called bread. It’s so unfair to the scrumptious treat that you are given. This dessert-style bread is moist and melts in your mouth like a high quality cake might. Add some ice cream to this bread warmed up and it would be nothing short of heavenly.

From the way the bread looked on television, I had a sneaking suspicion that I was going to like it. My biggest curiosity was how the bread would hold up in the mailing process. I’ve had local take-out that couldn’t hold up on the trip home, so naturally one needs to be curious about mail order food, of any kind. I am in Michigan, so the bread traveled over a few states to get to me. The taste was so amazing and so fresh I could have been fooled into thinking that it was baked the same day. It was shocking how fresh it was despite traveling a few state lines and being sent through the mail.

Now let’s talk about the bread for a minute. This peach bread was filled with peaches. We’re not talking flavoring, we’re talking big, plump peaches that were sinfully delicious. On top of the bread was a tasty, sweet glaze and an added layer of flavor. Things are topped off with just a little bit of sugar for some added texture and sweetness. For as rich and delicious as it is, it’s important to mention that it is not heavy. In fact, it’s very light and dense, which adds to the pleasure. So many desserts end up making you feel weighed down, but Breadwinner leaves you feeling satisfied. It melted in my mouth and pleased every sense I had. I knew from the first bite that I was in love.

I’m not always the biggest critic though so I made sure to pass some of this bread around. My mom tried some and I made sure to get her opinion because it seems she doesn’t like anything if I’m not cooking it anymore. She ate her piece fairly quickly and came back with glowing reviews. She wasn’t sure she liked the idea of receiving food in the mail, but this bread is certainly an exception for her.

Dominick was next. He’s not a big bread fan, he is usually more interested in savory, as opposed to sweet, and he is skeptical about foods that he normally doesn’t like. I knew he would be a harsher judge. Before tasting this bread, the main redeeming quality for Breadwinner to Dominick was that they were Southern based and he’s a sucker for food from the south. Needless to say, after the first piece he wanted another. Actually, I think if I would have just given him the rest of the loaf he would have eaten the whole thing!

Taste/Flavor: ★★★★★

There was one more person in our house that needed to taste this and that was Robert. I didn’t know if he would try it, because he is a very picky eater. He has an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and he is very wary of any foods that he is not familiar with. However, for the good of the site, he agreed to take just one bite, at the very least. Despite not liking anything new, he looked up with a smile and told me how good he thought it was. He finished his piece, too. I don’t need any more convincing then that. I am now 100% positive that Breadwinner is a winner.

Kid Friendly: ★★★★★

Breadwinner includes all of the freshest ingredients. This explains why many breads are only available based on the season. You won’t find too many that are available all year round, but I am guessing that most of them (if not all) are worth a way.

Their current lineup includes:

Available Now: Papa Don’t Peach, Lemon Poppy-razzi, Party at my Place Pumpkin, Better Than a Bubble Bath Mocha Chocolate Chip Bread, & Frankly, My Dear, I Don’t Give a Cran Cranberry Orange Bread

Available in Fall: Shofar So Good Apple Honey

Available in Summer: Be Still My Beating Tart (Lemon-Blueberry), Sweet Home Ala-Banana

Available in Spring: Houdini Zucchini Bread

I cannot speak any more highly about Breadwinner than I am. If you are a bread lover or a sucker for dessert you need to give this a shot. If you are interested in purchasing a loaf for yourself, you need to head over to the Breadwinner website for a list of optional breads and ordering options.

Oh, and if you’re reading this Breadwinner…I will work for bread, specifically the Banana and Pumpkin, which I’m dying to try! Okay, and maybe the Apple Honey bread, too. What can I say? I’m hopeless.
