Ultimate Salt WorksIf you cook, you use salt in some form or fashion. Whether it is in a mix of a seasoning blend or it’s straight from your counter, you are getting your daily salt intake somehow. The problem is that salt can be very powerful in a bad way. It’s good because it brings out the taste in your food, but it’s bad because it can overpower the taste just as easily. This is all compounded by the fact that the majority of people have never been blessed with anything beyond the taste of pure white table salt.

I don’t know about you, but I have a love/hate relationship with white table salt. Seasoning, especially salt, is necessary, but it doesn’t taste all that great. When I began learning about Artisan Salts I was increasingly curious. At first I deemed them expensive, but when you consider how a little salt goes a long way, the prices are not really out of the realm of understanding. I contacted Salt Works, not knowing a great deal about artisan salts, but wanting to try them nonetheless. I needed to know if they were worth it or if all salt just tasted the same.

When my Salkt Works delivery arrived, I was greeted with a box that contained twelve bottles of Artisan salts in different flavors and two packets of sea salts. The box also contained some handy recipe cards to give me an idea of what salts would work best in what dishes. I ended up testing a few on my tongue and using some of the others in recipes. I’ve used little of that standard white salt since this set of salts has arrived and my food has tasted amazing with this new touchup.

Of the twelve salts that were included, my personal favorite is the Cyprus Flake Sea Salt. This salt is delicate and delicious. It’s a lot milder than standard salt and has a fabulous texture that will add a small pop to your meal. I tried it on its own and in the French Onion Soup recipe that was provided for amazing results. According to the label, and I have to agree, the Cyprus Flake Sea Salt works best as a finishing salt or in baking or garnish for seafood and veggies.

The Murray River Salt was tested on some ribs. This salt is Australian in origin and it’s pink. The flavor is just fabulous. There really is no way to describe how flavorful this will make your meal. Like the salt mentioned above, the card mentions that this works best on seafood and vegetables, but the ribs were out of this world thanks to the spice rub that included this fine salt.

The Chardonnay Smoked Sea Salt was fabulous during breakfast where it was served in scrambled eggs. The overall taste is smoky and slightly sweet at the same time. The taste was definitely incomparable to the salt of old. In fact, all of the salts that were delivered were fabulous in their own way and they all offered their own unique flavor to the meal of choice.

The Ultimate Sea Collection is available for just under $140 plus the cost of shipping. The salts arrive in a nice white box with each salt in its own container for easy shipping. If you purchase one gourmet food enhancement item this year, I highly suggest Artisan Salts from Salt Works because they will last for quite some time and they will bring your food to a whole new level.

They also make a great gift for the gourmet on your gift giving list. So if you have someone to buy for, keep Salt Works in mind. Your friends will never expect such a gift and yet they will be entirely grateful for such a fabulous gesture.
