Dry SalominiRecently I was in contact with Volpi Foods and they were nice enough to send me a small selection of their goods. I originally became aware of Volpi because I saw them on an episode of Food Network. However, when I told a friend of mine that works in a local restaurant that I would be getting some products for review, he told me that the restaurant often ordered their products and that I would be in for a real treat.

I gave the company an idea of what I would be interested in and their Dry Salamini was one of three things I received. It arrived with some other products and a handy folder that included various recipes that I might want to make at some point with these fine Italian meats.

Volpi’s Dry Salamini is inspired by Emilia-Romagna. While the product is essentially salame, the salame is made by only using the freshest pork and a light seasoning of garlic and cracked pepper. From there the salamini is naturally dry cured, which results in a flavorful and zesty taste.

I always love trying foods that are from or mimic the cooking methods of Europe or another country. Often the food styles are incredibly different. In this case, if you are a salami (as it’s called in the US) lover, you will adore Volpi’s dry salamini.

For this initial review I cut some thin slices and everyone gave their piece a little nibble. Before the small piece was gone, everyone was mentioning the delightful taste. The flavors blend perfectly together and offer a zesty, palette pleasing meat. It offered a hint of spice, but it was by no means hot. Instead the taste was pleasantly mild. Everyone quickly wanted seconds, myself included.

Dry Salamini is perfect for snacking. It is best paired with a mild cheese or you could accompany it with some crackers and some fresh fruits for a perfect snack. There are instructions on the Volpi website for ordering. They deliver world wide and offer some of the best Italian salame that I have ever tasted. The dry salamini comes with a six month shelf life so not only will you be getting a great product it is set to last a long time, too. Well, if you can manage not to eat all of it at one time, that is.

If you love zesty meats, snack meats, and items that pair well with wine, crackers, and a nice cheese then this is going to be right up your alley. You will love Volpi’s dry salamini.
